On Mudita
and The Practice Of Social Arts

In November 2024, a set of workshops on puppetry and filmmaking, at a premonastic school in Chauntha, Himachal Pradesh, shining light on the question :

How can Arts and Social Practice inculcate transformation of the members in a community?

Mudita is one of Buddhism's Four Immeasurables, meaning sympathetic joy—the genuine delight in the happiness, success, and well-being of others. Unlike envy or jealousy, mudita arises from selfless appreciation, celebrating others' good fortune without comparison or resentment. It fosters interconnectedness and dissolves ego-driven barriers, nurturing a boundless sense of joy.
