Having learnt tabla from the prestigious Punjab Gharana in India, Talvin Singh returned to the UK anf laid the foundation to a fusion subgenre of Indian classical music and electronic music called the 'tablatronics'- much to the criticism of traditional Indian classical musicians. Dubbed by most as the father of 'modern Asian electronica music',
Talvin helped give roots to the 'Asian underground' music circuit in the UK, where he is an accomplished tabla player, electronic musician, music theorist, record producer and DJ.
Now at a mature musicial stage in his life, Talvin discovered the 'Surbahar' - a plucked stringed instrument with a distinct bass drone sound - which he plays as an intimate meditative instrument and through which he expresses 'intimate', 'spiritual music - and relates to his connection with Narmada, the river and his roots.
