and its Lovers’
Sabarmati and Its Lovers is a short film which explores the disturbing distinction which the city of Ahmedabad has, for being the city with the maximum number of suicides, by lovers, mostly by drowning in the river Sabarmati (in its current form).
The film explores the role of architecture and urban planning of the Sabarmati Riverfront ecology and the relationship of Ahmedabad's citizens (and Lovers) with the State they live in

We have a special relationship with rivers.
It flows from some other place, and holds the promise
of taking you along with it to some place new.
The film looks at the relatioship between lovers and the State, in the backdrop of the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad, from where, the highest number of lovers die by suicide in the country.
Has the life of lovers always been frought with such a violent relationship with rivers or has something changed in the language of the river with which it speaks to them?
